Psalm 23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Eliska Veronica Albert Christophe was born to the union of Wilbert and Victoria Albert on September 11, 1930 in Mix, Louisiana. Her early educational pursuits were completed in Pointe Coupee Parish. She later attended Southern University and A&M College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in education as well as 30+, thus beginning her love affair with educating the children of her community and those around her.
Upon completion of her education, Eliska entered into holy matrimony with Roland Christophe, Sr. Within their union, three children were reared, Datis Jerome, Bridget Mashan, and Roland Jr. They remained united and dedicated to each other until Roland’s passing.
Eliska held service to her community, the education of children, and her love of God and her church very close to her heart. She exemplified that love by being a member of the following organizations: Past President of John C. Aguillard Post 560 Women’s Auxiliary, Cub Scout’s Den Mother, Board Member of Pointe Coupee Educator’s Credit Union, Financial Secretary Sunday School Teacher, former Mother of the Church and Deaconess of Zion Traveler Baptist Church, Hope Ministry Volunteer, Louisiana Teacher’s Association, Bible Training Union and a member of 4th District Baptist Conference. She taught elementary math and science in Pointe Coupee Parish schools for over 30 years and even returned to serve the children of the parish after her retirement. The fire and love she had for children could not be extinguished, as when she was no longer teaching, she provided private tutoring for students in her home.
