James Lester LaCour was born January 3, 1933 in Ventress, Louisiana to the late Benjamin and Viola LaCour. He was baptized on February 18, 1933 and was dedicated to his Catholic faith until he was called home. He married the love of his life Odett Theresa LaCour on April 12, 1956 and to this union eight children were born. On June 29, 2025 at 12:15 pm, he departed his earthy life.
Lester was an exceedingly hard working, compassionate, strong-willed man with a heart made of pure gold.
Lester spent 40+ years working at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. And even though he retired over two and a half decades ago, he could always find work to be done. He worked to care for St. Augustine Church in New Roads until he was no longer physically capable.
The only thing he was more dedicated to was his family. A devoted family man, he loved spending time with them as well as the countless friends he made all the way through to his last days. He loved mowing lawns, making flower beds and dancing.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, generous heart, and the way he could fix just about anything especially with love. He was a selfless dad, grandfather and cousin, who always sacrificed his needs for the good of his family. He was their backbone and will be missed dearly.
He leaves to cherish his memory seven dedicated and loving children: Yolanda (Dennis) Harris of Los Angeles, CA, Sametria (Paul Sr.) Rochester of New Roads, LA, James (Shevonne) LaCour of New Roads, LA, Jerrell (Michael) LaCour-Morris of Huntsville, AL, Terrell LaCour of Fayetteville, NC, Tanzie (Brian) Banks of New Roads, LA, and Barry Sr. (Alisha) LaCour of Zachary, LA, eighteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, a beloved sister Deborah (Lionel Sr.) Paul, a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Benjamin and Viola LaCour, wife Odett LaCour, son Benjamin “Benji” LaCour, grandson Tremayne Munson, Father- and Mother-in-law Horace Sr. and Bertha Thomas.
