Born in Toledo, Ohio 92 years ago. He grew up on a houseboat on the Mississippi River below LSU before moving with his family to a old house on the River Rd. He went to school in Baton Rouge before graduating from Baton Rouge High School in 1950.
He met and married the former Carrie Marie Dupuy and they had been together for almost 68 years. Having two son’s; John W. (Buckey, Buck Jr. & BJ) McCreary Jr. and Arthur R. (Rusty) McCreary. Buck and Carrie were married for almost 68 years before her passing in 2019.
He had numerous nieces and nephews; Phyllis LeJeune and brother Lyle Matherne; Patricia Kelly Williams, and brothers Charles; and Dennis Kelley, Arthur (Buddy) McCreary; Maria Wooten, Jeffery, Melody McCreary & Nan Gilbert and the late Gene & Oscar McCreary.
He joined the Navy in 1951 during the Korean War; after boot camp he went to Engineman school, achieving the rank of en2 (Engineman 2nd). He worked 20 years as a welder for Yaun Welding & Machine Works; then for 21 years for
Exxon Shipping Co. as a repair supervisor on the tugboats and barges on the rivers.
Funeral will be at A Hamilton Platinum Funeral Services at 2055 Wooddale Blvd. from noon to 6:00pm Wednesday; and 8:00 to 11:00am Thursday; with Burial at noon at Greenoaks Cemetery on Florida Blvd.
