Sister Leatrice H. Alexander, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt was born April 12, 1940. She departed this life at the age of 84 on January 12, 2025, at the Lane Memorial Hospital surrounded by family. Her unwavering faith was a guiding light to her family and community, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.
She was called and baptized at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend Williams at the Strangers Home Baptist Church. Leatrice served faithfully in several capacities of the church including choir, usher board, deaconess and more recently, she was the Mother of the Church until her passing. She lived and set good Christian examples for her children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, and the whole family. She assisted her single mom, along with her brother Joe L. Hamilton, Sr. in rearing her younger siblings. She was not one to shy away from saying what was on her mind and was affectionately known as “Grant.” The family gave her the title of BOSS.
Leatrice received her formal education from Chaneyville High School Class of 1958. During her high school years, she was a great basketball player when the teams played
3 on 3. She was instrumental in leading her team as a member of the 1955 Girls State Champion Basketball Team. She was proudly inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 7, 2001. After her high school years, she worked as a nurse’s aide with many years of service at Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary, Louisiana. She also did private duty sitting with her beloved patients where she cared for them dearly.
Leatrice’s hobbies included making sweet treats (pies, ice cream, peach crunch, pecan candy, etc.), sewing, and quilting. She cherished the moments of walking and traveling with her lifetime friend, the late Mrs. Dorothy Spann. In her later years, she enjoyed attending the Chaneyville Community Center where she perfected her crafting skills.
Leatrice leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband of 65 years, Frank Alexander; her children: Frank A. Alexander, Sr. (Pearl) of Kathleen, Georgia, Henry R.
