Some people leave behind memories. Michelle Kidd-Bell left behind a legacy.

Michelle was the kind of person who made people feel like family. She had a heart that welcomed others, a spirit that encouraged people when they were struggling, and a strength that inspired everyone around her. Whether you knew her for a lifetime or only a short while, chances are she left an impression on you that you will never forget.

Born on November 24, 1970, Michelle was raised in Denham Springs, Louisiana, by her grandparents, Henry and Mary Kidd, and her beloved aunt, Katherine Glasper. The love, values, and resilience they poured into her became the foundation of the woman she would become. At nineteen years old, Michelle moved to Baton Rouge and began building a life centered around faith, family, and service to others. She spent twenty-eight years serving within the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, impacting generations of students, families, and coworkers. To many of those students, parents, and colleagues, she was simply known as "Ms. Kidd."

As Ms. Kidd, she taught at Park Elementary, Capitol Middle School, and Capitol High School before serving in administrative roles at Scotlandville High School, CAN Academies, East Baton Rouge Accelerated Academy, Northdale Superintendent's Academy, and Glen Oaks High School. She concluded her career in the Transportation Department. Throughout every role she held, Michelle's greatest gift was not teaching a lesson or completing a task it was making people feel valued, supported, and cared for.

But if you asked Michelle what mattered most, she probably wouldn't talk about her career. She would talk about her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring sister, an aunt who showed up when she was needed, and a friend people could depend on. She celebrated your victories as if they were her own and stood beside you when life became difficult. She had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and important. Michelle believed in people. She believed in second chances. She believed that everyone deserved encouragement, grace, and an opportunity to become better than they were yesterday. She never hesitated to help someone in need, offer advice, tell the truth when it needed to be told, or remind someone of their worth.

She was strong, but she was also compassionate. She was determined, but she was also gentle. She could be tough when she needed to be and loving when it mattered most. Her smile could brighten a room, her laugh could lift spirits, and her presence brought comfort to those around her.

During her battle with cancer, Michelle showed the world exactly who she was. She faced every challenge with courage, faith, and determination. She continued loving, encouraging, laughing, and living. She refused to let her circumstances define her. For nearly four years she fought with a strength that inspired everyone who witnessed it. Cancer may have been part of Michelle's story, but it was never who she was. Michelle's story is one of faith, perseverance, love, and resilience. She believed in keeping her faith when life became uncertain. She believed in fighting for the people she loved and the things that mattered. And she believed that peace would always come after the storm.

Today, her legacy lives on through her husband, Carnel Bell Jr.; her children, Byron Kidd, Darius Bell, Darrick Bell, and Tristen Bell; her sister, Courtney Brown; her brother, Joenathan Davis Sr.; her beloved aunt, Katherine Glasper; her niece Bri’Anna Armstrong, who held a special place in her heart; and countless family members, friends, former students, and coworkers whose lives were changed because they knew her.

Michelle Kidd-Bell lived with purpose, loved without limits, and left this world surrounded by the people she cherished most. She will be remembered not for how she died, but for how she lived.
