Rayfield Penn Obituary

Rayfield Penn was born on October 15, 1957, in Independence, louisiana, to Cleotha Rheams and Ernest Penn. He received his education in the livingston and Ascension Parish school systems. On April 15, 1980, he married Annette Penn, and together they built a life rooted in love and family. Their union was blessed with three children. Rayfield later joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Baton Rouge under the leadership of the late Rev. Ronald T. Williams. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he remained a devoted husband, father, and friend to many.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 45 years, Annette Penn; two sons, Nathaniel (Shondrika) Goza Sr. of Gonzales, Louisiana, and Jeffery Gaza of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Goza II, Takiyah Penn, and Jalayah Goza; and two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Goza III and Isaac Clarkston. 

He is also survived by two sisters, Lavina Penn of Haywood, California, and Rencea (Michael) Chatman of Sorrento, Louisiana; one brother, Lionel (Debra) Penn of Gonzales, Louisiana; one aunt, Maude Moses of Prairieville, Louisiana; and one uncle Robert Irving of Prairieville, Louisiana. Rayfield is also remembered fondly by his mother-in-law, Mary Goza; brothers-in-law, John and Michael Goza; sisters-in-law, Maria Fisher, Melissa Wilkino, Angelina Varise, and Jacquelyn Varise; two godchildren, Martina Goza and John Goza III; and a hoot of nieces, nephewo, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Natasha Penn; his parento, Cleotha Rheams and Ernest Penn; his brother, Michael Penn; sisters, Chiquita and Regina Mims; sister-in-law, Vanessa Penn; godchild, Tewanda Smith; his father-in-law, John Goza Sr.; and several aunts and uncles.

Rayfield will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering faith, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
