Regina E. Peairs Winbush was born on December 23, 1965 in Oxford, Mississippi to Earnest S. Peairs, Sr. and Estella McCorkle Peairs. She passed from this life to the next at the age of 60 on December 24, 2025 in Slidell, Louisiana.
Regina was a 1983 graduate of Oxford High School. In 1987, she went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Later, she received her Master of Arts in Communicative Disorders at the University of Mississippi.
After her education, she took her first professional position in public health working as an audiologist with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. She worked for 20 years before her retirement from that system. Regina taught communicative disorders students at Southern University in Baton Rouge. Then, she started her own consulting business before being hired by Oticon, an international hearing aid company, for thirteen years. She left the company once she began to face health challenges. Throughout her professional life, she always advocated for children, their families and the hearing impaired.
She married Ryan W. Winbush on May 7, 2005 and on that date she became the “bonus” mother to Ke’Onbre Bessie. They remained committed to each other for over 20 years.
Regina was a woman of faith and earned an Associate of Divinity degree in 2003. Later, she received her calling to ministry and was also an ordained minister and woman of faith. Ordained in August of 2013, she was active in ministry and as a church member with several congregations including Greater King David Baptist Church and Ministry of Love in the Greater Baton Rouge area. Most recently, she was a member of Divine Nature Assembly in Montgomery, Alabama. Even with her health challenges, Regina continued to volunteer.
Regina is survived by her husband, Ryan Winbush of Montgomery, Alabama, her sisters, Karen and Rhondalyn Peairs both of Oxford, Mississippi; her brother, Earnest (Geraldine) Peairs, Jr., of Memphis, TN; her daughter, Ke’Onbre Bessie of Baton Rouge, and nephew Joshua Peairs of Memphis, TN; her grandchildren, Joi and Jream Bessie.
