SHAVELLA TOMEKA MOORE, Vella, was born on May 21, 1977, to the union of the late Dellman Moore and
Janis Moore Swanson. She transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, May 5, 2023.
Vella was baptized at an early age as a member of St. Peter United Methodist Church. She later moved her
membership to Hour of Prayer Church in Baton Rouge where she served faithfully until she transitioned to be
with her Heavenly Father. She made her debut with the Franklin-Jeanerette Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority in 1995. She was a 1995 graduate of Shady Grove High School. She attended the University of

Louisiana at Lafayette. She was employed by Blue Cross.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her Mother and Bonus Father, Janis (James) Swanson; her Brother,
DeMoyne Moore; Godchild/Sister/First Cousin, Minister Shaleque (Minister Willie) Matthews; God sister,
LaKurshia Thomas Chaney; two nephews, Joshua “George” and Aiden; Maternal Grandmother, Rosemary
(Leroy) Hatch; Six Maternal Aunts, Edith Cooke of Alexandria, LA, Co-Pastor Sharon (Overseer Muriel) Brown
of Patterson, LA; Paula Jones, Myra (Joe) Powell, Demetric Dunn, and LaGuardia Rowe all of Baton Rouge, LA;
and Maternal Uncles: Alvin Smith, Darrell West, Danny Smith all of Baton Rouge, and Frederick Vories of Port
Arthur, Texas; Paternal Aunt, Selina Washington of Alabaster, Alabama; Paternal Uncle, David Moore of
Alabaster, Alabama; Maternal Great- Aunts; Evelyn Jones, Linda (James) Glasper, Tara (Vernon) Ashford and
Minnie Jackson; Maternal Great-Uncles, Andrew Jackson, and James Jackson; a host of cousins, relatives,

and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dellman Moore; Maternal Great Grandparents: Rose Lea Jackson
and Oscar Smith; Paternal Grandmother; Salina Moore; godparents, Ernest & Lillie Paynes; a great-niece,
Aidecyn; a first cousin, Derriel; and a host of material and paternal uncles and aunts, relatives, and friends.
