Thelma Brown Obituary

Thelma D. Brown was born on August 7, 1930, in Sicily Island, Louisiana, to the Honorable Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Jenkins Sr., who preceded her in death. On the peaceful morning of Friday, July 25, 2025, Thelma quietly completed her earthly journey, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service.

Thelma accepted Christ at an early age, and her faith became the cornerstone of her life. She was an active and devoted member of several churches throughout her lifetime, where she found joy in serving others. Her passion for helping others shone brightly through her work with youth and elderly programs, both in the church and the community. She was united in holy matrimony to Hezikah "Bobby" Brown, and together they built a life filled with love and purpose. Their union was blessed with four children: Dwight Brown (Baton Rouge), Dwayne Brown (Lafayette), Devossia Brown (Baton Rouge), and Denova Brown (Lafayette).

Thelma pursued her education with determination, attending public schools in Sicily Island and Monroe, where she earned her high school diploma. She later attended Southern University's Nursing program, earning an Associate degree. Her professional journey led her to the Anchorage, Alaska school system, where she worked as a Nurse's Aide for many years. However, Thelma always said her most important and cherished role was raising her children.

A woman of vision and determination, Thelma was also a successful entrepreneur, using her talents to build a business while always giving back to her community. Her generosity, wisdom, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew her. Thelma leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her four children, Dwight Brown (Sharon Brown), Dwayne Brown (Mary Brown), Denova Brown, and Devossia Brown; four grandchildren, Maurice Brown, Derek Fox-Brown, Donovan Fox-Brown, and Cheree Brown (Weston); and three great-grandchildren, Burniya Williams (Baton Rouge), Dajion Gioiosa, and Marion Fox (Las Vegas)

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Woodrow Jenkins, Wellington Jenkins Jr., and Riley Jenkins, and five sisters, Ella Mae Custer, Lorraine Jenkins, Grace Bowie, Lee Ethel Harrison, and Dorothy Jenkins. Thelma's memory will also be lovingly carried on by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will miss her deeply. Thelma's life was a testament to faith, love, and service. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
