Veronica "Cookki" Bergeron Desormes-Clay was born on June 28, 1948 in New Roads, La. to the union of Lanzie Bergeron Sr. and Edna Robert Bergeron. She gained her heavenly wings on June 1, 2025 at age 76 at The Carpenter House in Lafayette, La.
She was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Augustine Catholic Church, where she attended elementary school. Veronica went on to attend Rosenwald High School and later received her GED, then put herself through business school. For over 40 years, she worked in business administration at the following hospitals: Pointe Coupee General Hospital, Memorial Herman Hospital, Methodist Sugarland Hospital in Sugarland, Texas. Veronica married Oliver "Crow" Desormes Jr., and from this union she had four children.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Terrell Desormes (Pamela) daughter, Shannon Desormes-Smith (Darla ), Son,Kelvin Desormes ( Renee ) and her beloved pet Ally, her 10 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, four Godchildren, four Sisters and four Brothers. Cookki is also survived by one Brother-in-Law, and one Sister-in-Law, and former husband Robert Clay, his children and grandchildren.
Veronica is preceded in death by her husband: Oliver Thomas Desormes Jr., son: OliverThomas Desormes Il, grandson: Oliver Thomas Desormes III, parents: Lanzie and Edna Bergeron, sister: Nancy Ann Porche, brother: Donald Bergeron, her maternal and paternal grandparents and a host of relatives, friends and loved ones.
Visitation will be on Friday June 13, 2025 from 9:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. followed by the Memorial Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 809 New Roads St, New Roads, La 70760
